Counselling & Psychotherapy

At Share a thought Counselling and psychotherapy we provide individual counselling for adults, adolescents and couples who are seeking to find solutions to their personal issues.

Counselling & psychotherapy can be for anybody and can be a great support in times of crisis or change. Counselling & Psychotherapy involve a conversation with somebody who will listen, and who is trained to try and help you to make sense of it all, and assist you. It allows each individual the space to decide to try and change the things that may be troubling them, and find new ways to deal with life`s issues.

Some people are scared of the stigma or not knowing what to expect, at Share a thought a phone call can be the start by answering these concerns and begin a new journey of self discovery.

“Emotion which is suffering, ceases to be suffering, as soon as we can identify with it or escape to our mental reserves from it”

Sometimes there is confusion between the terms ‘counselling’ and ‘psychotherapy’. This is probably because there is often an overlap between them.

In counselling people freely discuss current problems in a confidential, supportive environment with a view to living life more effectively. Sometimes counselling will drift into the area of psychotherapy when it involves work on significant emotional events from the past (frequently from childhood), which interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively and happily.

At Share a thought we see you and aim to hear your story.

Life presents many challenges and you may be looking for solutions, or perhaps you may want to change. You may even be looking for some hope in a situation that seems desperate. You may be looking for understanding or even to be accepted. You may just want to talk, and have someone to listen to you.

Life can throw up a lot of uncertainty and coping can be difficult.

Loss

When a loved one dies, or a loss occurs it can seem as if our world stands still, while everything else goes on around us. We can feel angry, numb, or even be overwhelmed as tears well up unexpectedly. The pain of losing someone can continue long after friends or family have stopped asking how you are.

Relationship Problems

Relationship problems can be very difficult to deal with. Infidelity, loss of affection, money issues, stress, and even the arrival of children can put strain on an otherwise healthy relationship. Questions arise that don’t seem to have any answers; such as: do I want to stay with him or her? What way should I handle this? I love them, but we just can’t get on these days we always seem to be fighting.

Depression

Depression has many faces and goes by many names, it can arrive at particular times in our live, or be a constant companion. Understand the isolation and loneliness that comes with depression is what a counsellor can offer, we know that it can be very hard for friends and family to understand it. Often people just don’t know what to say or do to help you. We know that it can be difficult to talk about how you are feeling, especially when those feelings are most present, and it feels like the darkness is all there is.

Anxiety

Anxiety and panic can take control of your life and everyday tasks can appear daunting; going to the shops, meeting a friend or seeing a movie can seem beyond reach. You may experience chest pain, shallow breathing and or a pounding heart-beat, your arms and legs feel heavy and stiff and your thoughts go around and around in an endlessly spiral in your head, causing a disturbance in your waking and your sleeping.
